ARGILE DU VELAY, established since 1985, is the only one company which has its clays deposits in Auvergne. The company is mastering all the key steps: from the deposits to the delivery at the final customers by answering all its customers’ needs and requirements.

The Velay green clay is different to other clays in the market because of its composition. Since the tertiary era (65 million - 3 million years before), clays’ banks are located at the feet of the Auvergne volcanoes.

The Velay green clay is a natural mineral, aluminum silicate type with a laminated structure (phyllosilicates). This clay is unique because naturally composed by a natural mix of three different clays with complementary properties and virtues (mainly composed by the illite, the kaolinite and the montmorillonite). The Velay green clay is quartz free.

This natural blend of pure clays has unique properties: a high absorption and adsorption（cationic exchange capacity). This clayed mineral at 3 layers is non fibrous  with a high covering powder. The humidity rate 4 to 6%- is extremely low, thanks to an innovating drying technique.

From Morocco the rhassoul-ghassoul is a clay mineral powder. Its first traces date back to the 13th century when it was used during the hammam ritual. Its name meaning “to wash” (saponiferous clay). The rhassoul is an excellent natural purifier and cleanser. It is thus used from generation to generation by oriental women for body and hair cares during beauty routines. It is now a must during hammam sessions.

The Velay Green Clay is a natural and fine mineral powder obtained by an innovative dehydration process keeping clays’ original properties. It is found in the form of raw powder, in jars or in tubes ready to use. It will be mainly recommended for combination and oily skin to regulate the production of sebum by applying a mask.

How to prepare clay paste: put a chosen quantity of the clay into a glass or a wooden container, add water in blending with a wooden spoon stir to obtain a smooth paste. Adjust the consistency of the paste for use.
